Tarnishes when cleaning

This ring was beautiful when I first purchased it. After some time, it became dirty so I bought some sterling silver cleaner, knowing this was advertised as a pure sterling silver ring, so I should be able to clean it with sterling silver cleaner. It is well-known that cleaning a sterling silver plated ring with sterling silver cleaner, would result in the ring tarnishing. Sure enough, when I took the ring out of the cleaner, it was tarnished. I also lost a gemstone after cleaning it. I attempted to get the ring replaced, and customer service denied that this ring is only plated, and said that since I didn’t buy the cleaner from them, I would not get a replacement ring. However, I don’t see anywhere on their site that offers a cleaner? Buyer beware. I don’t believe this is a true sterling silver ring and while beautiful when first purchased, don’t use cleaner on it.
