Great purchase
I had never used a wooden plane before purchasing the Jack Plane and admit I was feeling apprehensive in setting the plane blade up to make shavings, very quickly my apprehension was overcome. The plane was very easy to set up, it worked like a charm, a tap here a tap there, a pleasure to handle. I feel very comfortable with this tool and will enjoy working with it on future projects.

It makes a difference!
Takes a bit of getting use to, having used a Stanley No. 5 previously. It somehow feels less stable/grounded than a metal plane (lighter and higher from workpiece), but the 55 pitch angle makes a world of difference planing things like spotted gum and other exotic timbers. I introduced a slight camber to the iron for use as a fore plane and paired it with a good mallet. It now works like a charm. Nothing replaces the feeling of wood gliding on wood.

Jack plane
This is a beautiful plane which I am still getting to learn to use. It is light unlike a steel plane and can be used in two ways depending on what you want. I marvel at its craftsmanship and plan on buying a smoothing plane next but need to master this one first. I was considering a Veritas which is $100 dearer but glad I bought this and am proud to buy an Australian plane. It fits perfectly on my shooting board too. It’s almost too good to use. I drool over the vices too.
