I really wanted to like it more than I did
Whenever I am looking for new pomades to try, the name Uppercut comes up as a top contender (pun fully untended). I had held off from trying it out just because the cost always felt too prohibitive at 18 bucks (at least) for 3 oz of pomade. However, after exchanging pomade experiences with a close friend, I caved in and finally decided to get a jar of it. Rather than going for the deluxe version I opted for their medium hold matte pomade as I assumed would be a good intro to their products. Off the bat the packaging is awesome. The two boxers on the lid had always been an aesthetic hit and part of the allure that's tempted me to get a jar of the stuff. The pomade itself looks cream and reminiscent of nougat - the comparison is even stronger when it's paired with the sweet butterscotch scent it has. I was very excited to try it and satisfy my curiosity of whether the hype is real or not. Unfortunately I should not have held my expectations so high. The pomade scooped like a dream very little resistance and none of the "goopy" jelly-like texture of other water bases. As per the jar's instructions I applied it to dry hair - however the pomade does not apply or spread as easy as it is to scoop. Almost as soon as it makes contact with hair, the creaminess is gone and instead you are left with a sticky feel in both your hands and hair. I was hoping that this kind of resistance would equate to a higher hold but that was not the case. I was able to style a decent sized pomp, but not without first struggling with combing it into my hair; if it weren't for the fact that it still felt a little tacky to the touch I would have thought that it had already hardened. The hold is not as strong as all the work it puts you through suggests, it feels more like on the lighter end of a medium. While technically pliable and re-combable, the initial hold does not last for long and I had to try and re-Uppercut does provide a true matte finish as opposed to the low-shine that other matte pomades give instead.

Matt Pomade
I have recently purchased an Uppercut Matt Pomade, and it is perfect to my hair since it is quite weak and thin. 5 stars!
