Compound Oscar Review

I am still determining where Compound Oscar's scent characteristics fit into my current and future formulas. My first impression was that of an old-world, powdery perfume accord. When I say "old," I mean a fragrance that feels as though it could have been admired a century ago—something that might have been at home in the late 1800s or early 1900s. To my nose, Compound Oscar possesses a strong and unmistakable identity. It is not a material that quietly blends into the background; it demands consideration and careful placement within a composition. Because of that, I suspect it will require some precision to determine exactly where it shines and what role it can play in future creations. I ordered it largely to have it available in my palette, and I am glad I did. While I have not yet fully decided how I will use it, it is one of those materials that keeps drawing me back for another evaluation. Sometimes the most interesting ingredients are the ones that take time to understand.

Perfect Gift!

One of my family members loves white floral scents and especially tuberose scents, but has become a bit jaded by the run-of-the-mill straightforward and inoffensive types that flutter around so often nowadays. This recreation of the original Oscar De La Renta was precisely what she was looking for! The sharp aromatic-spicy facets are quite prominent in the opening, but settle down somewhat to a much more wearable (and to my nose fairly vintage-leaning) dry floriental fragrance.

Smooth, spicy floriental

This perfume was not on my radar nor do I remember smelling a vintage batch. I am really glad I tried this recreation. It is complex enough that you are left more with a feeling than individual notes. This is strong, embodied, and feminine; not like anything worn today. I might like this as much as the lovely No 5 recreation.
