Great by the Sink, not the Shower.
I've had my soap saver for over a year now. Bought one to use with the Solid Dish Soap cube in the kitchen, and another for my bar of soap in the shower. The one in the kitchen works great! The dish soap and soap saver sort of solidified together making it easier to rub the sponge up against it. My dish soap has lasted for over a year and where it sits lets the water drain out nicely.
I do NOT recommend using this in the shower, though. My soap saver did not like being in such a humid and watery place. It started to bow and crack. I've had it out of the shower for a month now and it is no longer bowed, but still cracked in the middle. It works well with the sun basin soaps, but not when I used Dove bar soap. The Dove soap just bled all over it and made it so gooey gross, and still is after I've tried rinsing it off. Just be careful and watch it in the shower.

Compostable
I like the concept, but mine grew mold within as week. The problem with making it out of a biodegradable material like wood is that it is biodegradable. Maybe a different type of wood would be more resistant. Note: I live in a very humid place, this would probably work fine if my environment wasn't mold heaven.

Best soap holder I've ever had
This soap holder is the best I've ever had because it actually holds the soap up high enough that it fully dries out. I pre-treated it by coating it in mineral oil and parafin and I've had zero issues with it getting mildewed. I will order another one soon to use by all my sinks.
