Pleasantly surprised
I've been experimenting with taking food for overnight trips that don't require heating to minimize weight. I looked into alcohol stoves but decided they weigh almost as much as a traditional stove. Then I saw this on the zpacks website and figured the price is right for the weight. I like that you can take only the fuel you need. My first test was in sub-freezing conditions and I was skeptical on Esbit tablet would boil almost 2 cups of water. I was with two friends who had stoves that I could use as backup, but I didn't need to. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. Sure it takes a bit longer to bring water to a boil, but if your doing other camp chores at the same time it's not a big deal. Burns hot and clean with no residue on my pot. Packs up very small and weight is very low. I highly recommend for short trips - I haven't tested on longer trips yet. Just note that the Esbit tabs smell bad. I made the mistake of also ordering the Possum gloves and they absorbed the odor during shipping but over time it subsided. I keep the tabs in a ziplock bag, but read somewhere that leaving them outside in the sun reduces the odor without changing effectiveness. I'll give this a try once it warms up a bit.

Excited to try it. Curious how hot water can get.

If You’re Serious About Ultra Light
If you are truly serious about ultralight, but still enjoy a hot meal or drink, this is the stove for you. At 14g plus the fuel cubes you’ll have less weight than the lightest alcohol stove/fuel set up. With the added bonus of always knowing exactly how much fuel you have. Sure it takes a little longer to get to boiling, but with camp chores to do it’s no big deal.
