Fabulous Parang at this price point

Mastiff Gears is an example of excellence in customer service, thank you. I had a slight issue with the sheath, which they immediately corrected and took care of. Now for the blade, you would be hard pressed to find a better value Parang at this price point. It is a very robust, forged blade. Came adequately sharp, with a polished convex grind that is very well done. Well balanced as a chopper. I did do a few modifications which is fine for me at this price point. The tang, pins and handle scales needed some sanding to make them flush. I also bevelled the lanyard tube. I did touch up the edge, especially the 1st 2 inches for feather stick and more refined cutting. The spine is not 90 degrees for ferro rod striking, easily altered. For my hands the handle is made too thin, especially top to bottom at the blade end, so I added tennis racquet handle wrap to make it safer to use. The only big drawback is the sheath, which is unfortunate, as you can see that quite a bit of work went into making it. For this size blade, it is far too thin leather. You have to be very careful inserting or withdrawing the blade. The belt loop is also so so, only riveted. It could all benefit from thicker leather and a dangler belt loop. Overall though, this is an excellent Parang at this price point.
