Excellent product, great platform for Home Assistant
Very nice board. Gloss plastic case fits perfectly, snaps on. I'm using it for Home Assistant. After flashing the EMMC2USB image into an SD card, I was able to flash the custom HaOS image from my Windows desktop onto the included EMMC. The ODROID then booted from the EMMC and has worked flawlessly, without any glitches, for two weeks so far... Great product, great value, great performer. Installed in the case with the included heatsink, CPU temp is ~ 43C. Highly recommended. And I highly recommend Ameridroid - great product line, great customer service, fast fulfillment. The Rock 5 B I bought almost three years ago remains in daily service with zero glitches. Thanks!

My Hands-On Review of the ODROID-M1S: Powerful Little Frustration Box (With Potential)
I picked up the ODROID-M1S from AmeriDroid with high hopes. The specs looked promising—RK3566 quad-core CPU, onboard eMMC, M.2 NVMe support, GPIO options, and low power draw. I had plans: touchscreen interface, garage control station, maybe a weather station . Reality had other plans. The Good: • Compact and Efficient: The form factor is great. It’s a nice fit for tight spaces and off-grid enclosures. The low power draw makes it a good candidate for solar-powered or always-on projects. • Built-in eMMC: Having storage baked in is a nice touch. It boots fast and doesn’t eat up my SD card collection. • USB & M.2: USB 3.0 support and the ability to add NVMe storage are solid pluses. Future-proof enough for a lot of lightweight desktop or server tasks. • Thermals: Even without a fan, it stayed cool. I never had thermal throttling issues under normal use. The Ugly: • Display Issues: I paired it with Hardkernel’s VU8S display (MIPI-DSI), and this is where things went off the rails. Enabling the DSI interface disables HDMI. That’s not mentioned very clearly until you’re halfway into debugging a blank screen. • Limited OS Support: Linux images are hit or miss. Gnome worked best, but flashing and configuring them correctly took far more effort than it should’ve. Some overlays and driver issues (like the WiFi dongle) needed manual intervention. Not beginner friendly. • No Clear Recovery Path: When I got stuck in boot or config hell, there wasn’t a simple “reset and start over” option. You need another PC, and sometimes a prayer, to reflash or debug the system. • WiFi Drama: My 5BK WiFi module wasn’t plug-and-play. Had to compile a driver manually and fight through DTB config errors before I could get it online. Final Thoughts: The ODROID-M1S has the bones of a great device. It’s powerful, efficient, and expandable. But it’s not for the faint of heart or casual tinkerer. If you like problem-solving and have Linux chops (or stubborn determination), it can shine. Redeeming factors, ameridroid was very helpful with the return process and allowing me to revive a refund. I may take a break from SBCs for a while after this one.
