Great right out of the box. True to size. Very comfortable on my first two 5 mile mountain hikes. Have not tested Scarpa’s waterproofing yet.

Great hiking boot

In NW Montana. I often hike on un-maintained trails or off-trail and this boot meet my needs. Sometimes my Mescalito boots are studier then I need and the Moraine is the answer. Great traction and there is enough lateral stability/support to edge on steeper terrain. Also , the underfoot offers great protection in scree and talus. I like the padded protection over my heels and slightly higher water-resistance of the Moraine MID height when hiking off-trail or in rougher terrain. Because of the support, the Moraine required some break-in mileage with the upper. It started as a good fit and the comfort of the upper improved nicely without losing support. I normally wear a 46 in Scarpa and the Moraine is true to size. My feet are lower volume, with a narrow heel, higher instep and almost E-Width forefoot. The Moraine has slightly more volume then needed in the heel but enough room in the instep and toe box for an overall very good fit. I prefer to compromise on very minor heel slippage vs a forefoot that is too narrow.
