Spice grinding is an ancient technology, but not all contemporary devices work--including the Trader Joe's ones, which are not only plastic, but must be put in the landfill when empty. :( Glad I found these for my kitchen: attractive, nicely finished, easy to fill and easy to grind. I trust I will be able to pass them down to my daughter.
