I'm the purchaser/giver of the gift card. In the past, I've mailed food-related items as gifts- cheeses, meat products, gourmet gift baskets, etc. But to me, the trouble was that a significant portion of the expense was for shipping, not to mention the piles of waste packaging produced. So now, I instead find local stores in the community of the gift card recipient- supports small businesses, and minimizes packaging/shipping waste.
