The overall performance is lacking compared to old portable tape players and their is no bass boost function. The Bluetooth and built in rechargeable battery is a huge plus for a modern tape player. The build quality is fantastic and the Bluetooth works awesome! Though this is 2 steps back in performance compared to yesteryear it is definitely 3 steps forward for kids today
