Not What I'd Hoped For
After putting up with Razer for too long, I decided to get something else, and most people seemed to be saying that keychron has great stuff. So I bought this keyboard back in January. First, the build quality seems really good. You could probably use it as a weapon to defend yourself without breaking it, but it is heavy. Although I like the sound of the keycaps that come with it, I hate the style. They are convex, and remind me of typwriter keys, but I found them very uncomfortable when I first started using the keyboard. The convex style makes them feel significantly smaller than regular keys and after using it for months they are still uncomfortable for me. Not sure why they went with them. Performance is from the keyboard is very good. I don't like that the software for customizing and updating the keyboard seems to be online only. The keyboard may outlast the however long that software stays up, so it would be nice to have something that could be installed on your computer. Battery life seems to be really good. I have never been below 50% but rarely charge it. Now the problems. First, using it in blutooth doesn't work the best. Getting it out of sleep mode is weird. Most of the keyboard immediately wakes up, but the numpad does not. So I have to repeatedly hit esc/spacebar to get the numpad to turn on. Every time. Then the selector switch kind of broke. It's a 3-way toggle and clicks into position, but at some point it stopped clicking into the middle position, so it is difficult to have it in wired mode. It also sometimes runs in blutooth mode when the receiver mode is selected. That happened probably about a month ago. Then I tried to update the receiver because there was new firmware. I followed the instructions but it didn't work right and bricked itself. Which is the only reason I am using blutooth. Then I have had times where I have to plug it in and open the app connect with the app to get it working again. I had to do this once after turning off blutooth, but other times it seemed random. Honestly, my experience so far hasn't really been better than with Razer (and those products have no resell value). I might just have to give up on expensive keyboards and mice and just go with cheap stuff. At least then I will easily be able to buy replacements when they break. I can't afford to keep buying things for hundreds of dollars and having them break. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I can't recommend this keyboard, or this company right now.
