I love to have fresh wax my own board and take a lot of pride on doing it myself. Starting out, I bought a more budget conscious iron and I couldn't tell what temperature it was at. After using it a few times I decided to pull the trigger on a digital wax iron and see if I got better results. Getting the right temperature to spread the wax definitely leveled up my waxing skills.
