Profile Plate

A bit of a disappointment

I owned a cheap profile plate for a few years. It did the job, but the fittings would loosen up often and would have to be retightened. I thought it was time for an upgrade, so I ordered this HMH profile plate. Although the fittings seem to be of higher quality, they are still hard to tighten securely. As an aside, I also acquired a Regal Medallion vise recently. I tried this profile plate with the Regal vise (in addition to my HMH Spartan). It doesn’t work particularly well with that vise. The reason being that the vise jaws are further away from the stem as compared with the HMH. Consequently, the plate can’t be set to a position where it is directly behind the fly. It’s not really the fault of the profile plate, as I’m sure it was designed specifically for HMH vises. Just something to keep in mind in case you are planning to use this product with a non-HMH vise.

Work well and looks great

This enhancer works so much better than the white cardstock sitting on the table behind my vice. It’s easy to adjust and provides much better visibility while tying your fly.
