Great re-creation of the Red Hot Peppers, with instrumentation and arrangements faithful to the original recordings. The musicians have done their homework and play very well, in the spirit of Jelly Roll musicians. The quality of the recording is also great. A very entertaining album!

I love early jazz, especially when it is played by contemporary groups. I especially like early jazz live, but a beautifully recorded session using modern equipment is the next best option--particularly when the group is European! The clarity and dynamic range of these recordings will bring out the best in your system.

The Fried Seven tackle Jelly Roll Morton

Did you ever wonder what "jelly Roll Morton and the Red Hot Peppers" would sound like if Jelly Roll sat out the session? Me, neither! But the Fried Seven have some moxie and they pull it off with excellent mastery of the material. They did ask pianist Andrew Oliver to sit in on half the tunes and he does a great job considering they didn't write Jelly Roll's part back into their arrangements. If you like 20's jazz ensemble improvisation, you'll like the Fried Seven.
