The springs work great at pushing the jaws open for the first 2" or so. Of course, after full extension of the springs, opening the vise any further is a manual operation. They're a good idea and I call them essential for this type of vise.

These are perfect for making a Moxon vise with 3/4” posts work more smoothly. I watched his video and made the mortise for them too; it’s so clever!

Upgrading my Moxon vise

The springs and cork padding worked perfectly - making the vise far more functional. I no longer need three hands to crank the handles and pry the jaws to open the vise. The cork keeps the work piece steady without denting. Thanks.
