sorghum malt extract
Was trying to craft gluten free lager for my bride who, it turns out has a gluten sensitivity. GF beer is hard to find, the options are limited, and it's expensive. I turned to the team at NB and they suggested sorghum extract as a starting point. Since the beer cannot contain malted barley or wheat, I turned to buckwheat and rice hulls for flavor. It actually turned out ok. It looks like beer and kinda-sorta tastes like beer and most importantly, my girl likes it. I've brewed this 3 times now, tweaking a bit each time to improve character. If your girl (or you) has gluten intolerance, give sorghum extract a try...
