Marine Combination Padlock | 4-Wheel | CP50S

Nicely made. Durable. Doesn't rust. Cumbersome recoding process. NOTE screw position before removal.

This is a nicely made item and feels durable. The blue part is coated with plastic and it has a plastic button at the bottom to unlock the lock. At first I thought the lock was plastic and was going to be easy to break, but due to the weight, I realized that the inside of the lock is metal and the plastic shell is just to protect it from the elements, specifically, salt water, since this is an all weather lock. (It is blue for marine.) The cardboard that came attached to the lock says that is has a strength of 7 out of 15, is rustproof and has a 10 year guarantee. It also says it was salt spray tested for over 200 hours. Since it is supposed to be rust proof, when I washed it, which I do for just about everything new to remove any chemical residue, I was not careful about avoiding getting water into the holes where the lock goes in. I also purposely did NOT put it in the sun to dry because metal that rusts will rust if you don't dry it off right away. The visible portion did not rust. The lock is still working so I assume that the inside of the lock has also not rusted. Now for the process to recode the lock: Recoding the lock was a bit of a pain. There is a screw at the top (see pic) that you have to unscrew. Then you have to push the button at the bottom in further than level to the lock. This is a bit difficult and requires a bit of effort. You have to hold the button in while you are recoding the combo. Once you are done, you have to put the screw back in. (These are not the full instructions and you are directed to scan a QR code to get to the instructions. Make sure you follow the full instructions. I am just telling you about the part that is tedious and a bit difficult.) Once I did all that, I had a tough time closing the lock. I had to push it down really hard because it was not closing all the way. Then when I pushed the button to open the lock, the lock did not pop open automatically and I had to pull on it. The button at the bottom also would not pop out. I tried putting the combo back to all zeros and then it worked correctly. I tried again to change the combo and had the same problem. Again I put it to all zeros and this time, I had the same problem as when I had changed the combo. I thought that the lock was breaking!!! Then I tried to loosen the screw a bit and the lock worked a bit better. So I loosened it a bit more and it worked fine. Then I had to change the combo again to make sure it worked correctly, which it did. This whole process took me about 15 minutes to figure out how much to tighten the screw so that the lock would work correctly. Each time, I had to screw and unscrew the screw and push the button hard to change the combo. NOT fun. I had read the instructions and it indicated to NOT tighten the screw with too much force. But you actually have to leave some SPACE between the top of the screw and the lock. MEANING, do NOT screw the screw in ALL THE WAY. That is a bit DIFFERENT from not TIGHTENING the screw TOO MUCH. One star ding for the rather cumbersome combo recoding procedure and need for trial and error to figure out how far to turn the screw! BWERK.

Great all weather combo lock

This lock is awesome because of the all weather ruggedness and being able to set your own combination. I like how it looks and functions with the button on the bottom.

No more searching for keys !

I ordered this lock for my outdoor shed to replace a keyed lock. Having to constantly go fetch the key whenever I needed something from the shed was a huge pain, so the keyless convenience of this Squire combination lock is a lifesaver. It is perfectly suited for outdoors, made for all weather conditions, and has a great 4-number combination setup. Getting it ready to use is pretty simple; there’s a QR code on the back of the packaging that links to picture instructions. However, you do have to unscrew and re-screw a tiny micro-screw on the lock to set your code. I really wish they had included a tiny screwdriver, as I had to try five different ones before finding one that fit, a micro Phillips-head screwdriver. Other than that, the setup is a breeze. The number gears turn easily and smoothly. After entering your combination, you just push the button at the bottom of the lock to open it. I absolutely love the convenience of not having to carry a key around !
