We like the map and the added bonus that it can be controlled by an app on our phone. My only reason not giving it 5 stars is the lack of descriptive instructions and a viable template for wall mounting. The template provided only referenced the two upper most corners. (Hint: give an extra couple of inches at the top. The islands aren't included in the overall template allowance and need that extra room to align properly [see above Russia]) I understand after seeing the placements of the mounting strips that during factory assembly, it doesn't follow a predetermined pattern and is subject to the LED adhesion points made at that time. That being said, to give any potential buyer a heads up, I would suggest buying a large sheet (or taping multiple sheets of paper together to equal the size of the map) and laying the map pieces on top so that you can determine hole positions for placement on the wall. We bought the small version 51" x 31.7" due to space limitations for the map. This means many islands will be very small and a bit challenging to cut the tape to size (use a sharp razor blade) and position on the map. The other item to be aware of is the double sided tape. It is very sticky and the peel layer can be difficult to remove once you cut the tape off the roll. My suggestion is to peel the tape on the roll and cut to size that you need to attach the small items on with. Tools you will need: -Drill with tiny Philips head bit for screws mounting acrylic on back of lighted map pieces. -Drill extension with magnetic holder inside (helps hold small screws on the bit). -Long drive Philips head bit (Needed to reach length inside of mounting sleeves) -Drill bit with the size smaller in diameter than the anchors provided so you can get a good hold on drywall. -Vacuum for drywall dust generated during hole drilling. -Hammer for tapping in the wall anchors they supply. -Pencil for marking mounting hole locations. -Magnifying glass to read print on supplied map illustration. -Tweezers or long nose pliers to help mount the tiny items. -Flat file to reduce radius of some of the mounting screws (Several would not fit past the inner threads of the mounting sleeves). -Small step ladder or step stool (depends on your reach and the height you mount the map) I used a 3 step foldable version. -4-6 hours for this project. I did it on my own. One word to note for the seller. There are no videos to be found which actually help with installation. The minute and a half video with music instead of direction I found not very helpful. Lucky for you, I am a contractor/carpenter and after some guess work figured it out. Having a template would have also allowed for better spacing of the wiring (very stiff I might add) to help avoid the tension from the wiring on the map pieces. We found it looking 'droopy'. Perhaps a different wiring type with a more flexible casing could be used? (Referring to the heavy 2-wire connections between the continents) After all, it is a low voltage system beyond the transformer. Overall quality: This should have come with extra acrylic mounting strips. North America/Canada only have 2 which leaves the northeastern section hanging unsupported. Africa had the same issue which has the weight unevenly supported and not level with the main European continent at the Egypt/Saudi Arabia points. The map looks great though aside from the deficiencies I listed here for the manufacturers benefit. The map details are well done and labelled. (Not a fan of the banner covering Maryland though just to put emphasis on D.C. May not be an issue on larger versions) Yes, I would recommend this map to anyone looking to get one. Just plan on taking a bit of time for the setup and a full pot of coffee!
