perfect fit!

Well, the cord fit on the three pronga on my sewing machine. The problem is, it seems like when i push down on the pedal it hesitates, and then takes off extremely fast. There is no easing in to it,it's almost all or nothing. There is a screw in the pedal, and from what I've read online it's supposed to regulate the speed in which the pedal causes the machine to run (??) This could definitelybe better. I spent 50+ dollars for it too. Anyone care to help?
