AmScope SE420-X Binocular Stereo Microscope and LED Light Source on a Single Arm Boom Stand

Good basic scope

I was impressed with the clarity of the image from this scope, especially when using the 10x oculars. Not so much with the 5x, as they don't seem to be of the same quality as the 10x. I had hoped for doubling of the field of view by reducing the magnification, but it stays the same, regardless of whether the 5x or 10x oculars are used. However, it does appear that the depth of field is deeper, allowing more things to be in focus that are "taller" when using the 5x oculars, but I will probably stay with using the 10x most of the time, since they are more comfortable to use, and appear to me to have better image quality. Overall mechanical build of the scope is excellent, with attention to details that appear to be handed down from their more expensive scopes. Metal parts are used in places that other manufacturers may have been tempted to use plastics, giving the scope a very solid and stable feel. For electronics repair and troubleshooting, I'm pleased to have this scope, despite the few shortcomings stated above. With lower magnification, a much wider field of view would have been much more practical and appreciated.
