this melon is slow to germinate, first round did not work, then I planted (indoors of course) again, I got 3 to germinate out of 8. I think this is just the variety. Had similar experience first time I tried to grow them. My point here is not to get discouraged. I live in Northern Illinois and it is quite a thrill to get even a few fruits around August.
