The vertical design provides a unique combination of affordances: the laptop can be charged while in the sleeve, and it can be taken out of the sleeve while in the laptop pocket of a backpack. In addition, I love that the sleeve is lightweight, and gives a snug fit with clever side pull tabs for easily inserting the laptop. I use this sleeve for a non-MacBook laptop and the fit is perfect. Just make sure that the size of the actual laptop is similar to the size of the MacBook used for reference.
