Encourages reading
My daughter has really enjoyed using this reading journal. It’s been such a helpful tool for making her reading time more meaningful. Instead of just reading and moving on, the journal encourages her to really think about what she's reading and how it connects to her life. I love the prompts and questions—it’s not overwhelming but still gets her to reflect in a deeper way. It’s also been great for helping my daughter stay organized and focused, especially when she's working through books for school. Honestly, this journal has made reading so much more enjoyable for my reluctant reader. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try for your high schooler!

Great Literature Curriculum!
What a breath of fresh air for literature! We have always picked our own books to read for school subjects, and having a journal to think through the books on their own was perfect. We love that you can use any book and bought the digital version so we could pick and print which section of the journal we needed for each book. We also love that the student can think Biblically through any book, even if it isn't necessarily from a Christian background. We will keep using this every year for our literature curriculum!

Comprehensive; Just Add Books
My student completed the original version of the Reading Journal and is nearing completion of this new version (High School Reading Journal - Digital). As with just about every Not Consumed resource, this encourages independent study and requires the student to first make a plan as to how many pages are to be read daily to meet the goal set (end date). The daily activity segments guides students to analyze and form an opinion/judgment regarding what they are reading, while also covering other aspects of English Language Arts (vocabulary, composition, and the like); thus making it comprehensive. We began the school year following the suggested reading plan ("Kim's Way"), which was helpful to us when it came to printing. My student's response to me when asked about his thoughts on this reading journal, "It's fun." He was contrasting this with the BJU curriculum he had completed years prior. In all, we personally found this to be a valuable resource that offers a complete framework to aid in the development of deep reading. Best of all, you and your student get to pick the books!
