Pro-Ject Pick-IT S2 C Cartridge

Surprisingly good!

I listen mainly to CD, and streaming, from my PC. I have a pretty decent set-up for digital, and my turntable has always been the poorer cousin. More for nostalgia than anything. I have a modest turntable, an Audio Technica LP 140XP, and for a while I have been using an AT VM95E cartridge. I thought this was quite good, and many reviewers believe this to be a decent budget cartridge. I fancied trying something else (mainly curiosity) and saw the Pick-It S2, which immediately reminded me of the Ortofon Concorde, from years back. It's roughly twice the price of the VM95E, but still very much a budget cartridge. I was only expecting a minor improvement, if any. However, I was shocked at how much better this is! More refined, smoother, but still with plenty of attack, and excellent, well defined bass. I am sure that there are much better options out there, for better turntables, but for my LP140 this is a perfect match. This has made me go back through my vinyl collection, it's so addictive. Digital is not getting much of a look in, at the moment! Something that makes you want to listen to music is probably a good thing, eh?
