Laurindo Almeda Quartet Featuring Bud Shank
A very nice period album with a varied selection of tunes. Very reminiscent of Laurindo Almeda's Bossa Nova album with Stan Getz. A more relaxed style of playing here with Bud Shank. Sort of a Sunday afternoon with your favorite beverage and a book album.
The sound quality is dated, typical stereo mix for this era with what sounds like a narrow and recessed sound stage. The HDTT production gets the most out of it though, with no discernable noise added and quiet pauses between selections.
All in all an enjoyable album.

Good album Laurindo Almeida Quartet Featuring Bud Shank
Laurindo Almeida made all possibilities of a fusion of the music of his native country Brazil and Jazz. In 1958, he won an Oscar for the soundtrack for the movie "Old Man And The Sea".
The Alto Saxophone played by Bud Shank is really very good.
The beat, harmonic stamp, and economy of expression were good, giving Almeida and Shank's recording a different mood and sound.
Transferred from a Monophonic 2-track tape is good but not excellent like the other HDTT Jazz Albums (The Hiss noise is more)
