Great Pedal, Confusing Name

I've just taken my new Harp Octave pedal for its first test drive, and I'm enthused! I bought it on the recommendation of a known player who said it helped to boost the sound of some slightly too clean big amps. I already had "octave pedals" which provide a clear lower octave note or notes, but this isn't one of those. (Thinking it was just another octave pedal kept me from ordering it until now.) What this pedal does is add a subtle overtone that boosts the amp's distortion, adding crunch. You can adjust the extent to which it does this. The pedal also helps to control feedback so you can get more volume out of the amp, which also gets it to that sweet breakup spot. I've field tested it on a Bassman RI and a Bandmaster clone, both of which sounded good already, but the Harp Octave shifted them into another gear! I can't wait to try it on some of my "almost" amps! I suspect, however, that already good and crunchy amps like the Harp King or Meteor may not benefit as much from this, but who knows? I'll keep you posted Suffice it to say, the early results are positive!
