Dog cannot stand it & unclear on outflow vent

I understand that these should likely be used in an emergency only (the extreme breathe mask) but my dog just cannot stand these. He's a 60 lbs bernedoodle and he tries to scratch it off his head, bury his face into the ground/grass, and does anything to try and get it off. I'll use it if we're really in a pinch but he just struggles with it. Additionally - the outflow valve seems like it infringes one the overall safety of the mask. While the filter slips onto the area above the snout which is intended to filter air from the top coming into the mask, the outflow valve seems unfiltered and allows a direct flow of unfiltered air into the nose area, which to me, seems as though it chips away at the filtering integrity of the mask.
