Sleeping on this in combination with the tatami mats have tremendously reduced my back pain. For the previous decade back pain was the last thing I thought about before bed and I woke up with serious back pain. Ditching a traditional mattress for this set up has truly been life changing. It is also great to sleep on. I got the King 3" thick cotton batting. I might recommend getting two of the mattresses that are narrow and putting them together to prevent it being flatter in the middle then on the outside.

Love this mat. I wish I had ordered the 3”, as the 4” is thicker than the number implies, but hopefully it will flatten out with time. It’s nice and firm, a great sleep, and folds up handsomely. The cover is beautiful, but as soon as I slipped it over the futon, I noticed a three inch tear in the seam - I had hand-washed and hang-dried the cover but maybe it shrunk a bit and squeezing the futon in forced the seams open. That’s what brought it to 4 stars, but overall, I’m very happy with it.
