Not My Favorite, But Not Unusual For A Barleywine
I'm glad I chose to do a 1-gallon kit instead of a 5-gallon kit.
If you're into Barleywines, I recommend this one for you as it is very similar to Barleywines that I've sampled in local breweries. Having tasted a few, I simply had to try to make one for myself and Midwest was kind enough to recommend this one to me.
Bomber Barleywine wasn't much different than others I've sampled, which I didn't care much for. The thing that's off-putting to me is the residual sweetness - to the point where it seems somewhat syrupy. The mouthfeel reminds me of a late harvest dessert wine. The ABV wasn't nearly as high as I was expecting, but then again, I didn't use a yeast starter which would probably have helped in this case.
I still may try to make a different recipe, if one presents itself, but it isn't on the top of my To Do list.
