Good for First Time Quilting

This was my first time making a quilt (got to love doll clothes/ accessories for learning sewing techniques with little risk). This isn't a true Window Quilt pattern as those require more complex pieces to make the window frames have depth, to look like one is really looking through a window. But it is an easy pattern to learn to quilt with. I made this quilt out of knit shirts (that had belonged to my late MIL). To quilt with knits requires backing the fabric with interfacing first, before cutting out the pieces. And also makes squaring everything exactly almost impossible. Which then makes the back of the quilt show all the imperfections with the top stitching. I do not recommend using stripes or plaids for the backing fabric as this too shows all the mistakes. I will say that the corners of the binding were difficult for me, and I'm wondering if there is a better way to do the binding to make it easier and prettier. I've done mitered corners on napkins before and I think something like that would have looked nicer. I did not whip stitch the whole binding, only the corners and spots where my topstitching in the ditch of the binding failed to grab the binding on the back. My hand sewing is atrocious. I also used a serger when I pieced the top of the quilt together. Lessons learned! Time to try again!

I liked using this pattern although I changed it up a bit. Very happy with the basics of this pattern.

Pretty 4-patch quilt

Instructions are easy to follow, although I have made many quilts in the past so maybe that was an advantage. The finished quilt top is very cute but now has to be quilted. I hand-quilted my previous ones, but intend to machine quilt this one. I need some practice first so I don't spoil this one. It is darling.
