Le Mans 1980-89 by Quentin Spurring
The 80s were a wonderful decade of racing at Le Mans with glory and drama, on a track that could have been taken from the McQueen movie and that includes the pits. What an atmosphere there was in those halcyon days. This book brings them back, year by year in so many details with so many pictures. But first and foremost this book is readable and enjoyable. The author divides every year of that decade into different topics e. g. "A Pale Imitation" which was the last hoorah of a Porsche 917 in 1981. Of course you also learn in detail about qualifying and race including all stats necessary, about teams and their respective performances, etc.. I picked one year at a time and felt back at the track where I watched those mighty Porsche 935s with glowing exhausts and beautiful sounding Ferrari 512 LM with that 12 cylinder engine under perspex. I might be biased, this book is a clear recommendation though.
