Derek Daly

A brilliant read

This is a must-have book for anyone who doesn't just want the inside story on one of the brightest talents to emerge from the hotbed of 70's Irish motorsport. Derek Daly shot to fame with some epic drives in F3, F2, F1, Indycars and sportscars, but he also took a lot of hard knocks both on and off the track along the way, but came through it all as a well-rounded, incredibly articulate and successful man. Some great stories about so many of the characters he dealt with along the way. An important contribution to any motor sport library, but also a great book about surviving, reinventing yourself and making the most of opportunities.

I grew up beside Derek in Wyckham Park, Dundrum. I could drive a car from d age of 11 and I was a year older than him, and I used to see Derek driving his fathers car on d roads when he was about 13 - 14 years old delivering his fathers groceries to the various houses. I think the book is well written and although over d years I lost knowledge of his career, I’m glad he has been successful in d USA. The book seems factually correct and he certainly has had an amazing career to date I wish him health and happiness for the future Eugene Phillips

Very entertaining book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I remember watching Daly at Silverstone in his F3 days and took an interest in his career from then on to F1. He has turned himself into a very good raconteur and loved the stories and was blissfully unaware of his media career in the states after retirement from driving. I thought it was a really good read.
