I found this tutorial of great help to me in learning to make dovetail joints with hand tools. Of greatest help was the layout and positioning of the saw for obtaining the correct clearance for assembly. My earlier attempts produced a joint with too much gap between the tails and pins for a loose fit. Thanks for your help. klh

Really helpful to an old sawdust maker who never before had the courage to try dovetails! Rob is right that it takes a lot of practice, and I'm still practicing with offcuts from other projects. I've watched the video several times and still go back to it. His tips on layout, lining up the saw, etc. are terrific. His whimsical sense of humor puts the right mood on this right-brain experience. It's comforting to know that, because he lays out the pins directly from the tails, it doesn't matter if I'm off a millimeter or so; they match anyway.
