challenging pattern
I made the classic coat and cloche hat with faux fur collar. This is NOT a pattern for beginners, and unlike many doll outfits, it takes quite a while to make. I am giving 4 stars because the steps to pivot at the front and back bodice pieces are very difficult to do even with very careful stitching. I used a lightweight 100% wool fabric but would recommend something with a little poly for stretch and forgiveness. The fabric I used raveled like crazy, making things harder to sew. Also the little cloche hat does not fit well. It rather sits on top of the doll's head. I am an experienced sewist, but intend to try this outfit again. I think it would make more sense to sew the bodice pieces and then attach to a skirt, but I realize that changes the look of the coat. The instructions for attaching the lining are clear and it is a clever way to sew the side seams of the coat and lining. So, if you are looking for a challenge, and have a little girl who is really wanting this coat, I'd give it go. Be aware that the coat is quite close fitting. I have both an older (1997) and a newer (2017) AM doll. The older doll is a little burlier so it would be nearly impossible to have a dress with sleeves under this coat. The newer doll is a little thinner and might accommodate a dress underneath. Sorry to not include a picture.
