Purple Needle Black Tea of Jing Mai Mountain

I get a few big bags of the purple needle black tea every summer because it makes great iced tea. Just really brisk and refreshing.

Unexpectedly vibrant and citrusy

This purple needle black tea really surprised me. The dry leaves look almost black, but once brewed, the liquor is a deep, clear red-orange. The taste is lively and bright — think citrus fruit and grapefruit zest, with a natural sweetness. There's a floral smell too. The only thing to know: purple tea can have a natural bitterness (from anthocyanins). If you're sensitive to that, brew it lightly. Otherwise, it's a unique, refreshing cup.
