Solid Rim-Brake Carbon Hoops

Hard to evaluate only one component of a wheel, but these rims do everything I hoped. They built up easily with no obvious irregularities. They feel solid and cornering is predictable on fast and windy descents. A 25mm GP5000 tire measures 26mm at 80 psi, which is perfect for my setup. You pick up crosswinds more than a low-profile rim, but that’s geometry; no better or worse than a whale’s tail. Braking is better than expected - about as good as aluminum - in dry conditions (with Swisstop Black Prince pads); I haven’t tried them in wet conditions yet. My only downside is that the tire-rim tolerance is extremely tight - it takes a lot of massaging to get a GP5000 tire on the rim and even more effort to get one off. This is a gripe I have with all tubeless-ready rims, and I’d much prefer a rim-brake road rim to not be made to tubeless tolerances. Not looking forward to changing my first flat out on the road. Besides that, I appreciate Astral’s still making quality carbon rims for rim-brake bikes.

My best wheelset ever!

Bought the Veil 4's because of the wider internal rim width and therefore more aerodynamic rim/tire interface. Could tell immediately on yesterday's first ride as I coasted downhill well beyond a friend of similar size. Super comfortable on my usual rough roads, and stable during our windy bridge crossing. Should've picked them up long ago.
