MRCOOL Smart Wi-Fi Mini Stat Thermostat for Mini Splits

An improvement, but not seamless

I have been struggling for a while with temperature range and accuracy with my MRCOOL cassette. The internal thermostat is typically inaccurate (temp in ceiling unit is many degrees different from the room and using 'follow me' on the remote doesn't prevent wide temperature ranges (as much as +/- 6 degrees). I tried using the smart app and various 'comfy' configurations but that depended in the internal thermostat and so it could be skewed. That brings me to the mini stat, which I hoped would help because it is the thermostat and controller together at a normal place in the room. It also has a new 'comfy max' feature that claims to be better at efficiently maintaining a tighter temp range. What I have found is that the ambient temp reading is more accurate but comfy max and comfy modes still allow too much temperature variation. The best result so far has been to set a fixed target temperature and change it manually when desired. This keeps the temp about +/- 2 degrees, which is ok.
