I've been dabbling in bonsai on my own for a couple of years now and have watched a fair amount of YouTube videos to help me get started. Eric Schrader's juniper e-course is the first I've paid for and is the best thing I've purchased all year. It is comprehensive, informative and guides you through the entire process of developing a Shohin juniper bonsai. Eric is articulate, organized and even includes segments where the video runs at double speed as he prunes or thins an entire tree. I find it relaxing and just as helpful as the portions where he explains the processes and steps to get to a finished tree. I initially purchased the companion bundle along with the course but was so excited and inspired by the class that I purchased another bunch of 6. The young trees are healthy and well packaged and I received a nice mix of trees. Some have interesting bends in them while others have long whips or are especially bushy. If you've played enough to catch the bonsai bug and are ready for a more formal training, you could not do better than starting here.

Juniper course and juniper pack

The course is well made and very easy to follow. Eric goes over ideal situation as well as problems that might arise. The plan for creating beautiful shohin juniper is laid out in a very linear manner. Eric does a good job showing examples of trees at different stages so you have a good idea what should be done to your trees depending on their stage of development. I will watch the course at the end of winter to refresh myself, and create a plan for each individual plant for that specific season. I also purchased the 5 pack of junipers offered. The whips were extremely healthy. They were all about pencil or slightly thinner width. Perfect size for wiring. Very healthy trees I will buy a few of these packs each year. My only complaint is the perlite, coir mix is very light and lose which made anchoring a wire to bend and twist more difficult. Every other aspect of the plants and course was as good or better than I had hoped couldn’t recommend enough.
