I love the knife, but have not yet used the honing rod. The knife is extremely sharp, which is great. The box in which the set comes is nice. My one recommendation would be to improve the thin plastic sheath that the knife is in. It provides little protection from getting cut, which I did. Alternatively, the brisket knife should be in a hard case sheath of some sort.
