Faithful and True
As I’ve said many times, Rev Herman Hoeksema is, to me, the greatest teacher of Reformed Biblical Truth of the 20th century. Indeed, though passed into Glory, he still continues to be influential by his numerous writings.
This particular book, “ Whosoever Will,” has been a great blessing to me. I first listened to a radio broadcast when he preached on this very subject sometime in the 1950s. I remember being in a state of spiritual doubt and malaise, feeling hopeless and helpless, due to the corruption of my flesh and carnal mind. I could find no hope of forgiveness, no hope of an interest in the precious Savior’s Blood as availing for my sins. But, praise be to God, when I heard that sermon, “ Whosever Will May Come,” as it was biblically exposited by Rev Hoeksema, I was filled with peace and hope at last.
He explained, simply and plainly, that only those , who come to Christ for pardon and salvation, can only come if drawn by the Father, not of our own choice, not of the fallacy of “free Will,” which is really non-existent, but ONLY by the drawing Grace of God. Then he said that they who do come, will NEVER be turned away! Oh, Blessed Promise, what Joy!
The book is an expansion of this wonderful theme. It goes into more detail than the radio sermon, which of course, was limited by time on the air.
This is a book I will read over and over, especially when I need reassurance renewed.
I encourage anyone who struggles with spiritual doubts, as I believe all true sons and daughters of God do, from time to time, to get this book; read and ponder it in prayer.
