Review: A Difficult Summer

I read this book a hundred times growing up and I was delighted to find that I can read it a hundred times again! The horses, humans, plot, and writing are so engaging. I loved the horsemanship values described and weaved in among the everyday trials and tribulations that go with horses and ponies. I did feel some nostalgia for the descriptions of hacking to horse shows, endless rides about the countryside and in villages, and no cell phones! Just enough drama tied in to life at a riding school. I am now reading The Perfect Horse and am completely immersed in all things Bracken Hills.

A timeless treasure

I have loved this book since my teenage pony club days and couldn't resist the opportunity to read Gillian's full unabridged text. This edition makes for a much more fully developed script (although the aged paperback I have is still much loved). If you love pony books the Bracken series is a must. Can't wait for The Perfect Horse (3rd in the original Bobby trilogy) to be released in it's full text.
