Vanilla Mittens

I only received the yarn, there was not a pattern included. I paid for a pattern to make the gloves.

I love your pattern for the vanilla pattern, as soon as I have a little extra cash I am going to be ordering the Lana yarn to make a couple of good pairs, I just used some yarn in my stash to try it out because I hadn't made mittens in years.

I'm fairly familiar with reading patterns but this one has me stumped. I love the mittens but I can't get around the thumb instructions. I'll keep working. Does the thumb require double-pointed needles? The pattern doesn't specify.
