Some topics are addressed in a somewhat overly general way or without enough depth, leaving the reader to simply accept James’s conclusions at face value. The book reflects James’s own thinking, but on certain subjects I had hoped he would offer more food for thought, allowing the reader to reason through the issues and decide whether or not they agree with him.

I really enjoy the straight forward style of writing. They say that you never stop learning on a sailboat and this book is a true testament to that. Thank you for the great lessons!

I'm a sailor for 40+ years, this is an OUTSTANDING book, page after page of priceless knowledge it would take you decades to figure out on your own. Sure there are plenty of opinions in the boating world but James bases his on solid, proven and tested experience. It is my "go to" reference for sailing tactics, evaluating boats, planning, maintenance, emergencies and even state of mind. The only thing better than this book would be, this book with waterproof pages.
