Entertaining, but start at the beginning

I bought a set which were books 4-6 of the series by this author. They were fun reads, well written but rather formulaic. Each features a slightly problematic horse eventually gaining success in the particular discipline featured (some, such as polo being under represented in the pony book world). There’s usually a bit of derring-do involving the heroine’s martial arts’ skills about three quarters of the way through. This makes them entertaining. The characters are well drawn but too well established by book 4. I’d advise starting at the beginning where there would be a bit more tension as relationships and the stud itself are being developed.
