Not much riding!

It's difficult to know when the book is set - when girls wore dirndl skirts and people still used telephone boxes, anyway. The sentences are somewhat convoluted but it isn't a bad story - written with a dash of cynicism but not as humorous as Ruby Ferguson's Jill books. There are some engaging characters but very little actual riding. Only one of the three shows the children are entering is described - most of it is getting ready for the shows. Worth a read, anyway!
