The Bayeux Tapestry records another great moment in English history
As a history teacher and someone who owns far too many Jim’ll Paint It T shirts, this was another inevitable purchase.
With the Bayeux Tapestry currently visiting England, it seems only right to celebrate by wearing a version showing a completely different sort of invasion. This time involving a kebab shop, a mobility scooter, several pints and what appears to be a Ford Transit being used as a siege weapon.
I love the amount of detail in this. The more you look, the more you find. The borders are particularly good. Instead of mysterious medieval animals and scenes from fables, we get discarded cans, cigarettes, pizza, rats, an ambulance and a police car. Basically, everything historians need to reconstruct a British town centre at about 1am on a Saturday morning.
Being a history teacher, I will inevitably wear this to school and end up explaining the Bayeux Tapestry to someone who only wanted to know why there is a man being run over by a van.
The Latin is a lovely touch as well. It gives the whole scene a dignity it really doesn't deserve.
Future historians may debate whether the kebab caused the violence, whether it was simply a trigger for deeper tensions, or whether the real turning point was someone shouting, "What are you looking at?"
Five stars. The Bayeux Tapestry shows the Norman Conquest of England. This shows what the Normans might have produced if they'd conquered Wetherspoons.

Love the art, and I found the original new years eve photo too. Good quality cotton shirt too.
