Sprawling Western
Radio's 1931 "Cimarron", starring Irene Dunne, Stoic Richard Dix and a veritable cast of hundreds is a spectacular epic of the old West. From the jaw-dropping opening sequence, depicting the 1899 Oklahoma Land Rush, which uses a huge cast of extras, horses, and covered wagons to great effect, and multiple camera setups, including some low angle shots with horses leaping over, you are drawn into the mad melee of humanity as they rush to grab their plots in the new country . A triple Academy Award winner, including best picture, this doesn't disappoint!
