Great 1940 adventure filmed on location and in Glorious Technicolor
The film was shot in the wilderness of Idaho.
Spencer Tracy is perfect as an outdoors adventurer.
Gorgeous colors. A must to have in your movie collection.

Stunning Technicolor Adventure
Northwest Passage is an astounding achievement - one of the very few 3-strip technicolor films made almost entirely on location (in the Pacific Northwest), it required equipment weighing hundreds of pounds to be lugged through difficult and mountainous terrain. But the expense and effort is all there on screen. It looks incredible (Warner Archive's new restoration is a knockout), the scenery is breathtaking, it's beautifully shot, and the film stands tall as not just one of the finest historical adventure films, but one of the most insightful and realistic depictions of a military operation put to screen. I only wish we'd got a follow-up adapting the second half of the book!

First Rate
We found Northwest Passage, Blu-Ray DVD, to be First Rate in terms of; Quality, Presentation and Value for Money. The Movie itself is as good as ever it was. Visually great, and excellent performances all round. Worth a watch, or re-watch for all ages. Mike C.
